This match was a test in ‘playing the weather conditions’ as much as playing against the opposition. The rain subsided occasionally but for most of the game it just poured down. The wind was also changing constantly. Having said that the Sports’ handling was really impressive, although the usual fluidity of the threequarters was hampered by the weather. This gave a determined Tonmawr side a good opportunity to defend well, as they had more time to measure the Sports line movements.

The first try was taken well by Lloyd Wilson who was in close support as the Dewi Rees made a half break and slipped the ball to Lloyd for an easy try under the posts. Josh Davies adding the extra.

The next 15 minutes saw Tonmawr use the wind and close forward play to great advantage, forcing the Sports to defend in the already wet sticky conditions. They held on well for a few drives but Niall Price lifted the resolve of the visitors with a good try which just failed to be converted. 7-5 the score.

When Tonmawr fluffed a clearance kick it was Josh Davies who took it in mid-field and seeing space out wide and an obvious overlap, flipped the ball to Callum Griffiths with his speed he did not need the extra man and scored himself in the corner. The kick by Davies was excellent as the Sports led 14-5 as the whistle blew for half time.

The conditions for the second half were worse than the first 40 minutes. It was a credit to both sides that the rugby was as good as it was, and two further tries came to the Sports the first by winger Liam Bevan who ran well and touched down in the corner. The bonus point fourth try was scored by Josh Davies but by now the ball was heavy and the wind gusting, so no conversions in the second half and the game ended 24-5.

This bonus point win took the Sports to second in the league and with games in-hand on many other sides in the league.
