Under Tens Make a Welcome Return to the Field

Bridgend Sports Under Tens 12 V  Tonyrefail  Under Tens 0

The brief respite from the wet weather of the last few months was very welcome by all at Bridgend Sports under tens last Sunday. The extended period of atrocious weather had restricted the young players to a single game over the last seven weeks. This has proved to be very frustrating period for all.

The Bridgend Sports under Tens team may have been a little rusty but were soon taking out their frustration on the field as they put a Tonyrefail team to the sword. The fixtures between the both sides had always proven to be very close affairs previously, but the forced break appeared to have taken a heavier toll on the away team.

Tonyrefail started the game, but lost the ball at the first ruck. The Sports drove over the loose ball at the breakdown to secure possession then moved the ball quickly out to Cian John who sprinted into space to claim the first try. Tonyrefail fared no better at the restart, as ball was quickly lost to the Sports, Dylan Morgan gathered the ball and set off on a run, he was tackled five metres out from the try line but quick ruck ball enabled Morgan Edwards to find space to score the next try for the home team to take a 2 -0 lead.

It proved to be one of those difficult days for Tonyrefail, as nothing seemed to go right. The cold weather affected the players handling skills which resulted in the ball frequently being spilled to ground.

The Sports took full advantage. A combination of determined running from Dylan Morgan, Joel Rogers and Mason Balmer coupled with some skilful and intelligent play from Callum Lewis, Iestyn John, Joel Rogers, and Harri Wiliams ensured both a stream of possession and a continuity of attack from the home team. Five additional tries were scored in the first half; Tom Chick scored a try after Harri Williams made ground and from quick ruck ball Tom Chick use his pace to elude three defenders to score.    Joel Rogers was next to score, he received the ball at a restart from a penalty tap, he spotted a half gap and used his pace and verve to break the defence to score from just inside his own half. Tom Chick scored again which was followed by a try from Dylan Morgan, who was on hand out wide to receive a try scoring pass from Cian John.  Joel Rogers matched Tom chick two tries when he scored out wide for the final score of the half for the Sports to lead by seven tries to nil at half time.

The dominance of the home team in the first half was quelled a little in the second half as Tonyrefail rallied; they began to compete in open play and at the breakdown. They were not however able to develop any pattern of attack to enable them to cross the home teams line. The Sports under Tens, on the other hand, were disciplined; they varied play and supported each other in a good team performance. Tom Chick scored twice to add to his two tries from the first half, Dylan Morgan added two to his one first half try and Joel Rogers added one to his two first half tries to make the final score 12 tries to nil.
