Glais 23 Sports 5

A depleted Sports side travelled to Glais to play the side that has lost just one game this season. From the kick off they were further depleted when second row Josh Thomas received an accidental head collision and had to leave the field for hospital attention. The first encounters were very even, although rather scrappy with both defences looking secure. It was down to Glais flyhalf, Williams to break the deadlock with a well struck penalty after 15 minutes. He extended the lead 5 minutes later when a combination of Jack Evans and Nathan Collins failed to clear the Sports line and gave away a penalty in the process. The tight driving by the Sports forwards through Shaun Donovan,Cory Thomas, Lloyd Wilson and Gareth Bartlett was good but poor handling by the threes posed no real threat to Glais. Then Jamie Pensom had two long range penalty chances but although struck well, both kicks just shaved the outside of the posts and the half ended 6-0 to the home side.

Early in the second half Greg Thomas was yellow carded and this disrupted the Sports allowing Glais to widen their attack and their handling was good and the support from openside flanker very good as he rounded the defence to score under the posts, Williams increasing the lead to 13-0 with the conversion. This spurred the Sports into a good attacking mode and it was Lyndon Griffiths who made a neat break and a perfectly timed a pass to Jack Evans for the winger to score in the corner. They made it look easy and the travelling support thought this was a wake up call for the Sports, but it was not to be. Another card for the Sports did not help at this stage and Glais captain, Gareth Bennett took advantage of this and scored an unconverted try in the corner. The lead was then 18-5 and the Sports were not using the wind advantage at all.

Chris Austin for Glais had the final say of the match when he beat the outside defence of the Sports and scored in the corner to end the match at 23-5. This was a lack lustre performance by the Sports and they will look to get back to their earlier form when they entertain Banwen next Saturday KO 2.30 on the Bandstand field.
