This was a league match played on a damp wet day on a heavy wet pitch which turned out to be a fractious affair.

The home side started well gaining good field position in the Sports 22 which eventually resulted in a 5 metre scrum. The Quins pack drove the Sports scrum back causing the visitors to collapse the scrum and a penalty try was awarded. This was duly converted and gave the Quins a 7 nil early lead.

This could have been ominous for the Sports but they rallied well and soon started to put the home side under pressure.  After good phases of play they were awarded a penalty which fly half Callum Griffiths converted making it 7-3 to the Quins. After further pressure Sports were awarded a lineout on the Quins 22. After quick ball off the top sprightly young scrum half Lyndon Griffiths quickly whipped the ball to his half back partner, another Griffiths. With multiple runners confusing the home defence the fly half delayed his pass beautifully putting lightening winger Jack Hogan into a gap. This was the invitation the winger wanted and hitting the gap with searing pace the winger left defenders in his wake rounding the fullback before crashing over the line near the posts. Griffiths converted the try taking the Sports to a 10-7 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Sports dominate possession and field position but through a mixture of excellent Quins defence and some profligate finishing they were unable to score the try that would put the game beyond the home side. Some good tactical kicking from the Sports half backs always ensured the Quins were having to play from deep in their own half. This resulted in the visitors gaining two kickable penalties which were slotted over by Griffiths making the final score a 16 pts to 7pts win for a deserving Sports

The game was somewhat marred in the second half by an incident which resulted in a player from each side being showed a red card.

This was a difficult game in difficult conditions and the Sports will be delighted in the way they reacted to an early setback. Every player worked hard and should be commended but a mention should go to the excellent lineout work of Dewi Rees and skipper Ian John who once again led by example as did the ever industrious Andy Gill in the back row. An example of the Sports attitude was shown by tough tackling Jack Lesser who put a huge hit in on the Quins centre raising the spirits of everyone. The whole team spirit of this young Sports side was exceptional and promises well for the future
